Maria Murray, Ph.D., is the author of the Read Then Peek series from The Reading League Press.

A nationally recognized literacy expert and founder of The Reading League, Dr. Murray created this series because she saw a gap in the decodable text landscape.

Teachers needed books that were tightly aligned to systematic, cumulative phonics instruction, yet still felt like real stories children would want to read. There was nothing quite like it, so she set out to design a different kind of decodable, one grounded in the science of reading, carefully controlled for skill practice, and engaging enough to help young readers experience authentic success from the start.
